Volunteer
New Hospice Home Support volunteers are trained to tune in to the needs of the
patient, knowing when to ‘do’ and when to just listen, recognizing the changing
needs and sensitivities of the situation.
After training, a Hospice Home Support volunteer is normally assigned to one patient
at a time and commits to about 3 hours a week. This can make a real difference to
the quality of a patient’s life.
Hospice Home Support continues to support volunteers with ongoing training,
supervision groups and social evenings. Here they can meet other volunteers, share
experiences and raise any issues that they wish.
While the volunteer’s time is given free, Hospice Home Support pays for petrol and out
of pocket expenses.
