Training Co-ordinator’s Report It seems no time since I sat and wrote the last one. I have been with HHS for four years now and feel that it is time that I handed over the reigns to a new person. I have found this last year difficult due to growing family commitments; time has not been on my side. I feel that the next stage of HHS growth needs a new person with more availability and energy than I have. The volunteer team are working well and the supervision groups are well settled and we have three excellent supervisors. During the last year Sue Taylor and Coral Martin have completed their supervision diplomas. Hard work and determination were rewarded and HHS benefits. Congratulations to them. We have over the last two years trained smaller numbers of volunteers than usual although those trained have become an invaluable and integral part of our work. This autumn the response has been excellent, helped we think by a timely article in the local papers. We have also swelled our numbers of male volunteers, which is very good news. Our October training day for all the volunteers and those in training will look at Bereavement, also we hope to raise their awareness of how they cope and respond to stress. Looking after those who care and support is paramount and we hope to have some in put from Bridget Purser from PTH in the afternoon of the training day. The AO team is working well together and Coral supervises them on a regular basis, which has been a great support. The Supervisors and AOs meet four times a year with myself and I hope that continues as it gives us time together and a chance to discuss what we need to do to improve the quality of the service we offer. I am delighted to handover a thriving team and will enjoy watching HHS go from strength to strength. The ethos of giving emotional and practical support is the established strength of the organisation, long may it continue. There are too many people to thank but they know who they are without their support and dedication I would not have been able to do the job I have done. To name but a few, Maggie Guy, Linda, the AOs and three supervisors Irene, Sue and Coral. However we are nothing without volunteers and my thanks and enormous respect I have for them is beyond words.
